A-1 DFW PC
On-Site Computer Services
has installed hundreds of wireless networking systems in the home and small
businesses. While not overly complicated when following the directions
supplied by the vendor, 95% of the installations do not turn on the WEP
security feature. What does this mean to you and your internet setup at
home? Your wireless router actually works around 300 feet from the base
unit. 300 feet would in many cases would
include the street in front your business or home. I have personally
tested driving up and down streets with my laptop with my wireless card and
have attached to many systems. Your connection is totally exposed to
anyone within the 300 foot range. While someone could borrow your
internet services temporarily, the real threat is in your data in also
available to the same people. We as a default turn on the WEP on each
and every router, thus protecting your internet connection and data from
accidental capture from neighbors or roaming hackers. You can
easily read your manual to view the properties of your wireless setup and
view whether the WEP feature is turned on. If not, call us today and
have this built in protection enable, and have the peace of mind that someone
is not ease dropping on your business or home.
